ACTIVITIES - SANCTUARY BAINES' CAMP

Stanleys Camp Game Drive
Game Drives
The Okavango Delta is a protected area that offers a peaceful haven for its abundant big cat and bird population, ensuring that animals can thrive without disturbance. Experience the region’s remarkable creatures up close with expert guides on game drives in open 4x4 vehicles as you navigate the concession’s diverse landscapes – think desert, dry savannah, lagoons and swamps all within close proximity. Looking for thrills? A night game drive presents the perfect opportunity to observe nocturnal animals that are usually hidden during the day, or how about experiencing a walking safari? When water levels are higher, game drives are combined with motorised boating excursions for an even more immersive experience. Note that night drives are seasonal and depend on water levels.
Baines Camp Sunset Canoe Safari
Mokoro & Motorised Boat Excursions
One of the finest ways to witness the wildlife around Sanctuary Baines' Camp is from a locally made dugout canoe, known as a mokoro. These used to be carved from ebony but are now made from wood and fibreglass to protect the fragile environment of the Okavango. Float around the waterways and lagoons that make up the delta, scouting for animals such as crocodiles, while enjoying a remarkable view of the plains game from a new and exciting perspective. For the less intrepid, the camp also offers motorised speed boats for use when the rivers are in flood. (All water based activities are seasonal and dependent on the water levels of the delta).
Okavango Delta Safari Botswana Helicopter
Scenic Helicopter Flight
Discover the breathtaking Okavango Delta from the air with Helicopter Horizons Scenic Flights, a fully personalised experience that showcases the untamed wilderness and diverse wildlife in widescreen. Soaring westward toward the permanent delta, the flights unveil areas unreachable by land or water, revealing the vast expanse of the Okavango, its permanent waterways, palm islands, lagoons, sweeping floodplains and remarkable game. With doors removed for unobstructed views, these flights offer exceptional photography opportunities. Timings are up to you, however we recommend early morning or late afternoon flights for optimal lighting conditions. Preferred flight times can be requested upon booking. Please note that this activity incurs an additional cost. See full range of helicopter experiences here.

Guided Walks
Explore the art of tracking under the guidance of our expert staff, in pursuit of the most elusive animals in the Okavango. Located within a private concession, our camp offers the unique opportunity to safely approach these creatures on foot – a thrilling activity if you’ve only ever observed wildlife from the vantage point of a safari vehicle. While close proximity to animals is not possible, learning about their behaviours, analysing their paths and experiencing the bush from their perspective most certainly is – and it’s truly an enlightening and unforgettable experience.
