Sanctuary Makanyane Safari Lodge

Sanctuary Makanyane’s guides have undergone intensive training and have an in depth knowledge of African flora, fauna, natural history and ecology as well as extensive experience in their field.

The guides are not only sensitive towards the needs of their guests, but also towards the bush and its inhabitants, ensuring that guests receive an ecologically sound and informative experience. The guides are well versed in the conservation and habitat management policies of Madikwe Game Reserve and are accredited by FGASA (The Field Guides Association of South Africa) and THETA.

Steve grew up in Johannesburg and qualified as a Field Guide in 1996 after spending most of his childhood holidays in the Kruger National Park. Maryna hails from the Garden Route and studied a degree in conservation before qualifying as a Field Guide in 1997. They met at a private game reserve in the Timbavati in 1998 and left South Africa to guide and manage camps and lodges in Botswana, Namibia and Tanzania. They left Tanzania in 2011 after spending five years at Sanctuary Swala Camp. In 2017 Steve and Maryna returned to the Sanctuary team and joined Sanctuary Makanyane as Camp Managers.

Born and raised in beautiful Franschhoek winelands in the Western Cape. This is where he learned everything about the kitchen and culinary art. He found himself in the bush and has been based at Makanyane Safari Lodge for 14 years.
