Sanctuary Retreats Voted Top Resorts in Africa
Since its launch in 1987, Condé Nast Traveler magazine has been a source of luxe travel inspiration for millions. Now in their 28th year, Condé Nast Traveler has built up something of a cult following, with their readers being some of the most travel-savvy in the world, always on the look-out for the next “it” destination, hotel or eatery.
As such, Sanctuary Retreats is delighted to be included in this year's Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards with not just one, but three of our properties being voted into the 'Top 30 Resort in Africa'.
Our highest ranking property is Sanctuary Swala, which finds itself at #3 on Condé Nast Traveler's list. Hidden in a remote corner of the Tarangire, this camp combines contemporary chic with eco-friendly design to create a haven of peace and tranquillity. Each of the 12 canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and are within sight of a well frequented water hole. Choose to dine on your own private veranda or sip cocktails from the relaxing infinity pool as a wide variety of fauna from lions to leopards, elephants to impalas pass by the camp, making use of the shade and water offered by the camp's unique location.
Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma, made up of 12 heavenly tree houses connected by wooden walkways, along with two private houses, each with two bedrooms, their own dining areas, private chef and decks with plunge pools, was voted #5 on the list. Perched among giant ebony trees overlooking the mighty Zambezi River, this lodge is just 12 kilometres upstream from the world-famous Victoria Falls and offers guests the opportunity to combine wildlife viewing with adventure. The lodge has recently undergone a refurbishment which saw enhancements to the swimming pool and sunset deck area, dining room and tree houses.
In at #7, Sanctuary Chief's Camp is renowned for its exceptional levels of service and customer experience, and is consistently rated as one of the top safari camps in Botswana. It is located on Chief's Island in the Mombo Concession of the famous Moremi Game Reserve, an area known as the 'predator capital of Africa'. From January to May, a major renovation programme will be underway, dramatically increasing the size of all twelve pavilions along with the addition of private plung pools and dining areas, perfect for viewing the passing wildlife. This exciting new-look camp will re-open on 1 June 2016, complete with brand new vehicles.
In addition to this, Sanctuary Swala has been voted #33 in 'Best Hotels and Resorts in the World' category. We are very proud of this accolade, as well as having three of our properties voted into the top 10 of the Top 30 Resorts in Africa and would like to thank our past guests and Condé Nast Traveler readers for voting for us. We would also like to thank all of our staff, both those you see at camp and those you won't, as it takes each and every one to make our guests' experience as special as possible.
