Wildlife - Saadani River Lodge Banner

Saadani is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the ocean. Key wildlife includes: hippos, crocodiles, lions, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, zebra, dolphins, Zanzibar galago, blue monkey, Yellow baboon, hyena, leopard and civet. Game viewing varies throughout the year and the area is known for its sightings of genets, porcupines, civets, bushbucks, bush pigs, yellow baboons and Vervet monkeys.

The open grasslands offer good game viewing. wildebeest, antelope, duiker, reedbuck, waterbuck, zebra and giraffe amble the savannah plains whilst herds of buffalo and elephant laze in the shade of the surrounding trees. Lions, leopards, mongoose and other predators also relax in cool spots awaiting the sun to set before embarking on their nocturnal hunting. On the open sea many species of fish, dolphins and humpback whales are all regular residents.
