Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School

The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has been home to the Batwa people (pygmies) since before recorded history.

We are dedicated to finding a balance between gorilla conservation and human health for populations that live on the edge of wilderness and that's why we support the Bwindi Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School.

Located in the South-Western region of Uganda in the Kanungu district, right on the peripherals of the famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and nearby Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, the Bwindi Ebenezer Primary School currently serves 124 pupils.

Bwindi Ebenezer Primary School has three categories of pupils which are double orphans, those who have lost both parents, single orphans, those who have lost one parent, and needy children – these children could have both parents, however due to several circumstances these parents or guardians can’t take care of their children for reasons such as alcoholism, lack of gainful employment and parental negligence.

With the help of Sanctuary Retreats and our guests, we are currently in the process of improving and expanding the school building. Our goals include replacing the roof, buying new furniture and text books, and help to pay the valuable teachers deserving salaries. This will undoubtedly improve the children's education and safety and continue to help the lives of this local community.
