Sanctuary
Chief's Camp built a research facility and home for Roger and
Alison Heath in 2007 so that they could continue their botanical
work and concentrate on plants of the Okavango
Delta. Through extensive research, sample collections and local
interviews on traditional uses they wrote the acclaimed book,
"Field Guide to the Plants of Northern Botswana and the Okavango
Delta". They also pressed, dried, recorded, photographed and sent
their specimens to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew in the United
Kingdom.
Through their research project, they have given Sanctuary
Retreats' clients the exclusive opportunity to see the processes
involved in the analysis of the huge variety of plant life in
Botswana's Okavango Delta.
To advance their work, Alison and Roger would like to raise
funds to expand their study and involve local university
postgraduates in their research. They wish to purchase research
equipment including a microscope and presses to aid the examination
and photography of the many plant specimens in northern
Botswana.
