Whatever your travelling style, here are five of our favourite ways to lose yourself in the moment:

Brave a dip in Devil’s Pool (Zambia): For those keen to experience a different view of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, a swim to Devil’s Pool is sure to make a splash. This natural rock pool – by the edge of Victoria Falls on Livingstone Island – is safely accessible during the low-water months, from mid-August. With a bird’s eye view of the water crashing 103m below, don’t miss the chance to float towards the edge of the falls and swim in the ultimate infinity pool.

Sleep wild beneath the African sky  (South Africa): Deep in the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve, Sanctuary Makanyane’s secluded hide-out offers guests a romantic night out with a difference. Overlooking a waterhole and with spectacular views across the African plains, its double-storey luxury sleeping deck gives intrepid holidaymakers the chance to fall asleep under a canopy of stars to the sounds of the bush lullaby and experience an unforgettable brush with nature.

Makanyane Sllep Out

Balloon ride over Bagan (Myanmar): With over 2,000 Buddhist shrines sprinkled across 26 square miles, what better way to enjoy the majesty of Bagan’s ancient temple complex than from the sky. Taking off at dawn, you’ll drift effortlessly through time on a sunrise balloon ride and gaze down on more than 1500 years of history, all against the sublime backdrop of the Irrawaddy River and the Pegu mountains.

Bagan

Become mates with a primate (Uganda): Venture on foot into the atmospheric Bwindi Forest for a chance to come face to face with the endangered mountain gorillas who call this UNESCO World Heritage Site home. The elusive species here – including the mighty silverbacks - account for half the world’s remaining gorilla population, ensuring this interactive guided trek through their natural habitat could turn into the wildlife adventure of a lifetime.

Canoe through the Okavango Delta (Botswana): A floating alternative to the game drive, three of our Botswanan camps provide the option to take to the waterways on a dugout canoe. Still used by today’s ‘river bushmen’, these ‘mokoros’ allow you to glide through the labyrinth of lagoons and track down the local game from a different angle. From here you’ll see the buffalo drinking from the river, look for sunbathing crocodiles and watch out for wallowing hippos.
