Update - Migration in the Serengeti

January 2012
The annual Wildebeest Migration is on the move surrounding the plains of Sanctuary Kusini in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. This incredible spectacle involves around 1.5 million wildebeest, 300,000 zebra and other antelope together with their young. They begin their epic journey at the start of the year from the Serengeti Plains, making the 1,800 mile clockwise migration to Kenya's Masai Mara and back again.
The migration moves in search of food and water and many do not make the journey due to treacherous river crossings and other predators. At the beginning of February many calves are born in just a short three week period. This is an amazing time to watch wildebeest and other calves being born and running alongside their mothers. It is also a time that lions are on the look out for food!
