We recently hosted the team from hit US television series Born to Explore at Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp in the Okavango Delta.
Presented by avid explorer and extreme adventurer Richard Wiese (who first climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as an eleven-year-old!), Born to Explore takes viewers on an inspiring and entertaining adventure around the world.
Tune in this Saturday morning, 11 February 2012, to watch as Richard and the team explore the Okavango floodplains, experience a taste of the local culture and dining at Sanctuary Stanley's Camp, and walk with elephants in the bush. The episode will be broadcast on most ABC stations, check local listings.
In partnership with the non-profit Living with Elephants Foundation, guests at Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp and sister camp Sanctuary Baines’ Camp have the extraordinary and unique opportunity to take part in a very special learning adventure – a leisurely paced walk in the Okavango Delta with a trio of semi-habituated elephants and their guardians Doug and Sandi Groves.
Interacting with Jabu, Thembi and Morula allows for a newfound appreciation of these gentle giants, providing a deeper and more personal understanding of elephants. In addition your participation funds important consevation efforts.
In addition to the unique elephant interaction, game drives, walking safaris and mokoro (local dug-out canoe) excursions are all on offer at Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp. This classic tented safari camp is located on a huge private concession in the Okavango Delta. The eight guest tents are gathered around a large sitting and dining area which affords magnificent views over the floodplains of the Okavango Delta. Each canvas tent at Sanctuary Stanley’s is individually designed, but all have a classic and understated elegance that harks back to the explorers of the 19th century. Large wooden decks provide private areas for guests to relax in hammocks or enjoy cocktails before dinner.
