Game Drives

Saadani National Park is one of the last remaining protected coastal areas in Africa allowing native plants and abundant wildlife to flourish. Our guests are likely to catch sight of; cats, antelopes, giraffes, elephants and buffalo.

Lions and leopards enjoy relaxing in cooler spots waiting for the sun to set. Encounters with other vehicles during game drives are uncommon and game drives occur in the early morning and late afternoon/evening when the temperature is more agreeable to both our guests and the wildlife.

river excursions

A great place to encounter the local wildlife is the Wami River. Bird watchers are in for a treat with the overwhelming abundance of birds in their natural habitat. Our river excursions start right from the lodge and journey down towards the mouth of the river encountering hippos and crocodiles whilst the monkeys and birds watch from the trees lining the water. There's so much wildlife in the area, no river excursion is quite the same as another.

Not only can you watch the birds from the comfort of your room's terrace but we will happily arrange a bird watching trip around the lodge's surroundings for you. Species commonly seen include Kingfishers, Fish Eagles and the many species of wading birds.

sundowners & bush meals

When the sun sets, it's a spectatcular moment that we mark with cocktails and a tasty snack. Sundowners can take place in the middle of the river or the middle of the bush while you absorb your surroundings. We will also be delighted to arrange a magical dinner experience for you in the middle of the bush.

If a river excursion on a regular boat is not exciting enough, guests can experience sailing on a traditional boat, a 'dhow' with one of our local experts.
