Day 1

Yangon

On your arrival at Yangon International Airport you will be greeted by your Sanctuary Retreats representative and transfered to your hotel.

In the evening you will visit the Shewadagon Pagoda, the largest and oldest pagoda in Myanmar. You will not fail to be impressive by the gilded stupa in the centre with a large emerald on the top and the decorative statues surrounding it. Accoridng to legend, eight hairs of the last Buddha are ensrhined within.

Day 2

Yangon

Start the day with a visit to the Botaaung Pagoda which was rebuilt after the orignal was destroyed in 1943 by an Allied bomb. While the pagoda was being cleaned-up, a golden casket in the shape of a stupa was found containing relics of the Buddha including a strand of hair. Continue on to the tallest building in the town area, the Sule Pagoda, which is believed to be have built in the 3rd Century BC. Before lunch take a tour of the National Museum which features a large selection of exhibits over many eras of Burmese history including the Lion's Throne.

After lunch visit Bogyoke Aung San Market which was originally know as Scott Market, which has been around for over 70 years and is sitll a very popular Yangon market due to its 1600 shops and stalls.

Day 3

Yangon to bagan

Take an early flight to Bagan and be transferred to the Sanctuary Ananda. Check into your suite and enjoy your first lunch on board.

In the afternoon, travel to Bagan by coach to visit  some of the most important temples and pagodas among the 2,000 which comprise this most magnificent archaeological site - the Ananda, the Htilominlo and the Pyathatgyi.  Enjoy the sunset from the latter, before visiting a laquerware workshop at Myinkaba village.  Return to the ship for cocktails and dinner while enjoying a traditional performance.

Day 4

BAGan

Choose one of two early morning optional excursions - a balloon ride over Bagan (additional charge) or sunrise meditation at one of the temples. Otherwise, after breakfast visit the sacred Buddhist Shwezigon Pagoda which houses a bone and tooth of the Gautama Buddha and the Gubyaukgyi Temple as well as Nyaung U market.  Return to the ship to sail northwards on the gentle Ayeryarwady river.

A choice of lectures and demonstrations are on offer during the afternoon or simply enjoy the scenery from the sundeck by the pool, or Kansi Panorama Lounge or relax on your own private balcony. Anchor for the night.

Day 5

MANDALAY

Breakfast at leisure or enjoy early morning meditation or yoga classes on board as the ship sails towards Ava the ancient imperial capital for five centuries.  After lunch visit the monasteries and pagodas of Bagaya, Sagaing and Amarapura by horse and cart or coach. Take time to visit local silversmiths and textile workshops before heading to the U Bein Bridge for drinks at sunset.

Return to the ship for a farewell dinner followed by a traditional musical performance.

Day 6

inle lake

Arrive in Mandalay and disembark for a transfer to Mandalay airport for your flight to Heho, the gateway to Inle Lake. Upon your arrival in Heho, you will be met and transferred by road and then boat to your luxurious hotel in the quiet countryside of Myanmar. Inle Lake is a beautiful, peaceful area of Myanmar where you will have many glimpes into the unique local methods of farming, fishing and local crafts.

Enjoy an Inthar lunch, mostly traditional recipes with fresh vegetable from the organic gardens grown on the lake. Travel by boat across the lake to visit the Phaung Dao Oo Pagoda, which enshrines five Buddha images which have been covered in so much gold leaf that their features are no longer defined.

Day 7

Inle Lake

After breakfast visit the five day market which is named such due to how it changes location every five days to better suit the needs of the local hill tribes who come to buy and sell their goods. Continue from here across the lake passed floating farms to the Inn Paw Khone Village where the traditional weaving techniques are used. Travel onto Nam Pan Village which is built on stillts above the water to see a local blacksmith in action, a boat builder's workshop and a cheroot making factory where you can even have a go at rolling your own cheroot.

Enjoy an exotic lunch on the lake before visiting In Dein, where you will have an opportunity to wander through this typical lakeside village, all the while observing the lives of local people before reaching Shwe In Dein, an impressive and thankfully unrestored collection of ancient Shan style stupas. Then return to the hotel for dinner.

After breakfast you will be transfered to Heho airport for your flight to Yangon for you onward flight out of Myanmar.
