Game Drives

Sanctuary Escarpment Luxury Lodge offers full day game drives in both Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, using our open 4 x 4 safari vehicles driven by our qualified and knowledgeable guides.

On the Lake Manyara National Park's plains, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, ostrich, elephant and the occasional leopard can be spotted. The lake attracts hippos and over 380 species of bird such as flamingos, pelicans, storks, cormorants, Egyptian geese, and spur-winged geese. Enormous hippos cool themselves in the pools along the lake shore. The area is also famous for tree-climbing lions, who make the mahogany trees their home during the rainy season.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a Big 5 area, and also features wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, elephants, lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, leopard, huge amount of birdlife with 450 species recorded such as ostrich, Kori bustard, crowned crane and the secretary bird. Migratory birds are present from November to April. The crater is famous for having local Maasai with livestock live in harmony with environment.

Visit the nearby village of Mto wa Mbu for a cultural learning excursion. Experience the indigenous life of the Masai people with interactive cultural activities such as art making, dance performances and enjoying some local cuisine. Guests can immerse themselves in the timeless daily activities followed by these vibrant and fascinating people.



Treatments offered are:  Manicures, Pedicures, Facials and Massages. All the treatments are currently done in the guests' room as we are in the process of building a small spa at the lodge. Once the spa is completed, we will do the treatments there. The guests can make a booking at reception and a time will be arranged as to when they will receive their desired treatment/s.

Africology™ products are used in all treatments. This range uses healing essences of some of South Africa's indigenous plants, Rooibos, Aloe Ferox, Marula and African Potato. They are a natural, organic range, chemical free and allow nature to fragrance their products naturally and select actives that bring balance and harmony to the skin. They practice fair trade and show a great social responsibility to empowering the people of Africa. They are dermatologically tested to EU standards, not tested on animals nor use any animal products.

Enjoy a canoeing excursion on Lake Manyara with qualified guides - who each have unique knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area. See masses of flamingos at the lake and for miles into the distance.

Guests can book an exciting fishing excursion on Lake Manyara. Both catfish and bream (Tilapia) are present  in the lake; and like all the large Rift Valley lakes, Lake Manyara has its own species of bream.
