Day 1

On arrival at Livingstone Airport a Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma representative will meet and transfer you to the lodge. The transfer time is approximately 20 minutes. Just outside the airport the statues of Livingstone and his loyal servants commemorate the historical story of Susi and Chuma. Chuma was only a boy when Livingstone freed him from slavery in 1861. He was from the Yao tribe and probably came from present day Mozambique or Malawi. Sussi joined Livingstone at Chupanga, in present day Mozambique, when he was employed to cut wood on 'Livingstone's Second Journey'. Sussi & Chuma came into the limelight after their employer, David Livingstone died at Chitambo's village in modern day Zambia.  They decided to carry his body all the way to Bagamoyo (on the coast of modern day Tanzania) where it was handed over to the British authorities and transported to London for burial.

Arrive at Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma where a delicious lunch will be served. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. Activities offered at the lodge include, game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where guests can see a variety of game, including white rhino, elephant, buffalo and giraffe,  walking tour of the incredible Victoria Falls, sundowner cruises, village tour, walking safaris and canoeing excursions.

Day 2

The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. In early November 1855, Livingstone travelled down the Zambezi River to see for himself the area the natives called "smoke that thunders." Approaching the spot in canoes, the party could see the columns of spray and hear the thunderous roar of water miles away from the falls. David Livingstone was the first 'European' to see the falls, where he named them in honour of H.M. Queen Victoria in 1857. They have since become one of the most famous and visited waterfalls in the world. The Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, was created by water erosion of a natural fault where it is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. It drops between 90m and 107m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic metres of water plummet over the edge every minute. This morning you might want to explore the Zambezi from a canoe just as Livingstone would have slowly gliding down the River or enjoy a walking tour of The Falls.

Day 3

The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. This morning you might experience your complimentary flight of angels which is without a doubt the best way to appreciate the true splendour of the Victoria Falls. From up in the helicopter you can see the wide Zambezi River upstream as it meanders along its course and the zigzag gorges below. Numerous islands and animals can be seen from the air - these could include elephant, buffalo, rhino, hippo, crocodile and giraffe. See the how the wide river abruptly plunges over the edge where the river is reduced to a narrow gorge. The afternoon could be spent on a Zambezi River cruise - a great way to spend a few hours before drifting back to the lodge. Sipping on a cocktail while watching the sunset over the majestic Zambezi River is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Tonight after dinner relax and enjoy our camp fire story telling as the staff share the story of Sussi & Chuma and Livingstone.
