Yangzi Mid-Autumn Festival Cruises

June 2011
We are pleased to announce two special Yangzi cruises (Downstream and Upstream) on the Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer in September 2011 in celebration of China's 'Mid-Autumn Festival.'
The festival is the second most important cultural event for the Chinese people after Chinese New Year. Held on the fifteenth day of the eighth moon, around the middle of September to October in the western calendar, the day is also special as it is considered a harvest festival where fruits, vegetables and grain are in abundance. The most special food for the festival is moon cakes, a golden yolk (representing the full moon) from a salted duck egg is placed at the centre of each cake, and the golden brown crust is decorated with symbols of the festival. There are special celebratory customs, such as burning incense, planting mid-autumn trees, lighting lanterns on towers and fire dragon dances.
Want to experience the Mid-Autumn Festival in all its glory? Between 8-15 September 2011, there will be two special cruises on board the Sanctuary M.S. Yangzi Explorer in honour of the historic Chinese festival. Learn the stories and tales from the on board Chinese specialist over a game of lantern riddles, and enjoy a piece of traditional 'moon cake' as the full moon shimmers off the mighty Yangzi River.
