A commitment to conservation and responsible tourism has been an integral part of our daily operations ever since Sanctuary Retreats' beginnings in Kenya. Our cruise ships are no exception.
The Sanctuary M.S Yangzi Explorer, in China's Three Gorges region, is fitted with a state of the art sewage disposal system, and also adheres to a rigorous recycling programme. No aspect has been overlooked in an effort to be environmentally sensitive.
Our expedition vessel in the Galapagos, the M.V. Eclipse, employs environmentally friendly onboard practices, including an on-board water treatment and desalination plant, eco waste disposal, and biodegradable cleaning fluids and toiletries. The Eclipse has been successfully certified within the Rainforest Alliance "Smart Voyager" programme and is dedicated to protecting the fragile exosystems of the Galapagos Islands. All itineraries are agreed upon with the Galapagos National Park Service in order to ensure that impact on visitor sites is kept to a minimum.
Strict recycling and hygiene procedures are followed onboard the Sanctuary M.S. Nile Adventurer in Egypt so as to minimise impact on the local environment. In addition, Sanctuary Retreats has cleaned and made extensive alterations to one of the docking areas along the Nile - transforming an informal rubbish dump into a small garden.
