Botswana Giraffe Rescue | Anti-Poaching | Sanctuary Retreats
Tuesday, 9 July 2013
Last week our teams at Stanley's and Baines' helped rescue a giraffe in Botswana, alongside the Anti-Poaching Unit.
Our teams found that the giraffe's leg had been caught in a snare, so they immediately got in touch with the APU and informed them about the incident, who then came out to assist us to help the giraffe. It had a wire snare around its leg which needed to be removed. The APU had to dart the giraffe with a tranquilizer in the water, before attempting to remove the snare. When the giraffe went to sleep the guys had to keep its head out of the water to prevent it from drowning. They managed to remove the snare and awaken the giraffe without incident.
We're now happy to report that the giraffe is on its way to full recovery - well done to all involved!
