Ananda model testing
Tuesday, 10 December 2013
A model version of the Ananda has been created and tested at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Model Testing Laboratory in China, in the lead up to first sailing of the Ananda, in late 2014.
Testing has been led by Naval Engineer and Maritime consultant,
Professor Charlie Than, who is responsible for the technical speed
of the ship and the way it flows through the water. Professor
Than was President of the Myanmar Maritime University and Executive
Member of Ministry of Transport from 2008 to 2013. At present, he
is the Myanmar Branch Chairman of the Royal Institute of Naval
Architects and is well known and respected by very senior
government officials. In addition, he is an expert group member of
the National Water Resources Committee in Myanmar.
"We created a model of the ship and have conducted a towing test
to measure the resistance, the technical speed of the ship, and the
way it flows through the water. The
Ananda is the first ship on the on the Ayeyarwaddy River to
undergo such extensive work in preparation for sailing and European
designers have been involved to ensure the ship adheres to European
River Vessel safety standards. We hope this will prevent any engine
problems during sailings, an issue which has affected other ships
on the river" explains Professor Charlie Than.
