10 Night Bagan - Homalin - Mandalay Cruise Ananda

Day 1

bagan to pakangyi to kani

Check in at 12.30 and settle into your suite. If you arrive on an early flight, you can take an optional tour of Bagan including Minanthu village, Thone Zu Pagoda, Brick factory (extra charge and subject to availability).

Set off downstream stopping at Pakangyi to visit an ancient monastery.

Day 2

kani to mingin

Continue sailing on to the Po Win Taung caves and the Shwe Ba Taung complex of monasteries and temples. This is one of the main highlights and even the most discerning traveler will marvel at the sandstone caves and murals. Tonight, the ship will anchor near Kani, home to the famed Lord of the White Horse nat, a pre Buddhist form of animist worship. Visit Kyidaung, a typical riverine village and absorb the vibrant atmosphere.

Day 3


Sail onto the Mahar Minkyaung Monastery in Mingin which is a stunning mix of Burmese and European architecture.  The rest of the day will be spent cruising downstream and moor up along the river for a sunset cocktail and mini BBQ on the bank.

Spend the morning onboard relaxing until you reach Homalin where you can wander through this small "frontier" town that seems large and bustling after the calm of the Chindwin. Visit the lotus garden and the market.

Day 5

sittaung to mawleik

For those early risers there is the chance to visit the early morning market in Homalin. Depart Homalin and sail past Sittaung and towards Mawleik where you will see the river change colour. The day's cruise takes you through some remote river, with very little traffic and wonderful jungle.

Day 6

mawleik to kalewa

Spend the morning cruising towards the town of Mawleik which was once the admin centre for the Bombay Burmah Trading Company. It has a large central market and is quite a hub on the river with its lovely old colonial houses, making it a wonderful town to visit.

Day 7

kalewa to maukkdaw

During the morning sail along the river take an adventure into the Chin Hills for a few hours to marvel at the spectacular view where few tourists venture. Continue down the river and through some of the most scenic spots of the Chindwin of gorges, thick jungle and small riverine dwellings. In the evening there will be an optional lecture on the history of the Burmah Chindits.

Day 8

maukkdaw to monywa

Visit to the town of Maukkadaw and wander through the small market. There are some wonderful old teak buildings and the town in surrounded by dense jungle which in the monsoon season is a verdant green. Continue cruising downstream to the town of Moktaw where you can relax on board, have a massage or take a stroll through the small town. In the evening there will be an optional lecture on the history of Myanmar (TBC).

Day 9

monywa to chindwin confluence

Continue cruising downstream and after lunch disembark at Monywa and visit Thanboddhay Pagoda complete with thousands of Buddha images and the Bodithaung Pagoda with Burma's largest Buddha statue (100m long & 27m high). Sail downstream towards the Chindwin confluence.

chindwin confluence to mandalay

Continue cruising towards the Chindwin confluence and stop on the way for a visit at the charming little up country riverine town of Yesagyo.  Cruise through the afternoon along the Ayeyarwady river from the Chindwin confluence towards Mandalay.

Early morning breakfast and check out at 6.30am. If you are departing on a later flight take a morning tour of Mandalay visiting Mahamuni and Kathodaw pagoda, Shwenandaw monastery and a gold leaf beating workshop (extra charge and subject to availability).
